About
 Hi I’m, Donna Powell, owner of Matters of the Heart. As I look at my life I realize that I’ve been on the path leading to the creation of this company. At age 11 I had a focus on learning to make stuffed animals. Women’s Magazines at the time featured stuffed animals to make. All the crafter had to do was draw the pattern to scale from a grid. This was all the start and encouragement I needed to start on my adventure. I began drafting my own patterns after success with my first few projects.
Through a commitment to stay home with my children and encouragement from friends I began a sewing and alteration business. This led to many diverse projects from sails to wedding dresses. Occasionally I would get a job creating a prototype stuffed animal. These jobs delighted my heart.
Matters of the Heart began with a prototype of a Memory bear made for a business in the community. They needed a referral resource for clients who wanted Memory Bears. The idea of Memory Bears excited me. A chance to help people celebrate their loved ones is a special opportunity. With this opportunity came a chance to realize a dream of mine, introducing the Flavor Sisters to the public. These small rag dolls have a charming beginning as told in Chocolate’s Story written and experienced by my daughter Robin and myself. |
